As we mark World Immunization Week 2026, the theme “For every generation, vaccines work” reminds us why this mission is vital in Somalia.

Our teams face recurring climate shocks and the constant movement of nomadic communities, requiring a revolution in how we deliver lifesaving care.

Supported by EU Humanitarian Aid (EU ECHO) and the British Embassy Mogadishu, we serve over three million people annually with health and nutrition services.

Our focus is  working aggressively to reduce the “zero-dose” rate while providing essential treatments and childhood vaccinations.

Vaccines are the most effective shield against measles, polio, and pneumonia, giving children the foundation they need to survive and thrive.

Caafimaad Plus is committed to vaccinating children at every contact point, whether in clinics, stabilization centers, or through community outreach.

Despite our progress, unimmunized pockets remain. These gaps lead to recurring outbreaks of measles and diphtheria, threatening the most vulnerable.

The consortium remains in a state of constant readiness, collaborating with partners to scale up operations and launch rapid emergency responses.

To meet rising demand, we employ a “One-Stop-Shop” approach, integrating immunization into every single point of care.

Whether a family visits for a routine check-up, a nutrition screening, or prenatal care, vaccination services are available on the spot.

This strategy ensures that every interaction with a caregiver is a critical opportunity to complete a child’s full vaccination schedule.

We prioritize Cold Chain Integrity to withstand Somalia’s extreme climate, maintaining a temperature-controlled supply chain from hubs to remote outposts.

Our mission extends beyond clinics. Specialized community interventions help us reach the “last mile” by following nomadic groups to find “defaulters.”

These are children who have missed scheduled doses and remain unprotected. We track these routes to ensure no young life is missed.

The impact is seen in mothers like Shamso Mohamed at Bayhaw Hospital, who previously watched helplessly as measles took lives in her village.

“Now, because of these vaccines, my youngest children are healthy and strong. It is a relief we once only hoped for,” she shared.

However, the journey is ongoing. Our focus remains on those in the most distant areas who have yet to receive a single drop of protection.

“We must keep moving until every child is reached,” says Abdikarim, an Action Against Hunger frontline health worker.

Together, facility-based care and aggressive outreach are helping Somalia move toward a stronger, state-led health system.

Localized leadership and technical precision are turning global health goals into real, tangible results for the Somali people.
